Pumpkin Carving Party!

Sweet preteen families!

Today is the Pumpkin Carving Party at Kristen and Angel's house! We are looking forward to seeing you while dropping off your kiddos. We are super excited about the message behind this pumpkin carving adventure.

Just like the pumpkin, we have to be emptied of all our "gooey and yucky" mess inside, before we can glow because of the Light within us.

We challenge you to make this Halloween not just about candy, but about letting yourself glow in the Lord and for the Lord.

"Let your light shine before men so that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16

Challenge Updates: August 29-September 4

Wow! We are into the second week of the J12 Challenge! You should be into Genesis 8-15 right now. Can't wait to see those journals.

This past Sunday at church, Hannah Simpson told us that she was loving the challenge.

"I love journaling. I even wrote down a cool genealogy last week!"

Hannah's mom, Lisa, said that she was hoping to start the challenge too, so that they could do it together.

Parents, you are more than welcome to join your kids on this adventure. How cool would it be to have a family that was daily studying the Word of God together! Talk about some dinner table discussions! :)

In the Beginning

We had an incredible time at the Desoto Caverns. The kids got to eat lunch outside among God's creation. They then got to do five activities at the park including panning for gems, the cave crawl, water gun maze, water balloon face off, and pedal go carts! Needless to say, the hot weather was not a problem considering the kids were soaked with in the first 30 minutes.

After the activities, the kids were split into their small groups where they read, discussed, and journaled about Genesis 1 and 2. Overall the kids asked some awesome questions and really began to read critically. They were challenged to read 365 chapters this year and to write or draw about those chapters.

At 7 p.m., we went into the cave with only our lanterns. Once inside we learned about "total darkness" and then were so surprised when all the lights in the cave came on. The kids kept exclaiming how "cool" the cave was. Then the team at Desoto put on a wonderful water and light show that explained the Biblical Creation account.

Most importantly, we hope that this year the preteens will take the J12 challenge to read the Bible Overview and journal about what they learn. Encourage your kids to stay on top of this exciting and rewarding journey. They will need your help to develop discipline and passion from start to finish. Pray with them daily about their commitment.

Desoto Caverns Weekend!

Preteens get excited! The J12 Desoto Caverns Retreat is in 2 days! We can't wait for you to get here!

Remember to be at the church no later than 10:30 a.m. for registration and a time together in the chapel. Please put your name on your stuff and make sure to bring your smile.

What is J12?

Jesus at the age of twelve is the only window we have of the Son of God from the time surrounding His birth until His baptism.

At this age, Jesus is “lost” in Jerusalem. His frantic parents find Him in the temple and ask Him what He has been doing. Jesus responds, saying that they should have know he would be about “His Father’s business.”

We live with a rescuing mentality when what we really need is a reaching revelation. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it.”
If we reach our kids early, the probability is that we won’t have to pray for their return later on. Twelve through twenty-one is the greatest decade of regret in western culture, when it should be a decade of destiny.

Dawson’s Preteen Ministry, J12, desires to equip and encourage our preteens to embrace the cause of Christ as their very own. Our prayer is that Jesus’ words would become the passion of this generation, that our preteens would be about their Father’s business.
